Mumbai’s airwaves were abuzz with music quite literally, when ‘RJ’ Anu Malik recently cohosted Mumbai’s No.1 morning show, Hi Mumbai with Jeeturaaj on Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. So what was it that went on at the show? Listeners and fans of the music director listened in as he shared his passion for music and said that he loves any profession that is associated with music.

Getting back to what he does best, which is making music, in his latest project, Kambakkht Ishq, Anu shared that he has created some really hot numbers. Om Mangalam, Lakh Lakh, Bebo and Kambakkht all feature varying musical styles. Anu told Mirchi’s listeners that he faced different challenges when putting together this melange of sound. The first was to create a hook for the title song and after a lot of soul-searching, he came up with Om Mangalam. Another, was to create a song on Bebo aka Kareena, where the team had to detail out various aspects of Bebo’s personality and create a musical piece that fit her overall look.

Anu strongly feels that the melody makes the music and likes to create songs that have melody as the base, which could then be layered with musical styles like Hiphop, Rap etc. On the music industry per se in India, he felt that there is a lot happening in the market with radio and digital. He appreciated Mirchi’s efforts in leading the charge and bringing the music industry to the fore with the Mirchi Music Awards, of which he was a jury member, and looked forward to another one this year.
