Sometime ago it was just the Bollywood fraternity opting for changes in the name. And it is rather infective because even the creative people are not spared from it. The latest to join the bandwagon is Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan’s sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash who gets transformed to Amaan and Ayaan Ali after dropping their last name Bangash. After carrying the surname of Bangash for the past 15 years they eventually drop it and will just carry with their father’s surname Khan.

The brother duo says that their educational certificates and also their friends refer to them as Khan and not Bangash and so they opted for the alteration. The surname of Bangash were given to them by their mother Subhalakshmi when they started playing sarod professionally because she wanted them to have their own identities other than their father’s. Bangash was rightly referred as their music belonged to the Bangash gharana carrying the fifth generation of legacy forward. Their father dropped the surname and now they opt for it again. Even they feel that professionally the surname Khan will support them with a strong base. So the astrological motive also has a part to play here.

Amaan and Ayaan are right now gung ho about their album ‘Reincarnation’ and are busy shooting its second video in Goa. Through the videos they want to boost the life of the album as well reach to wider audience, specially targeting the youth. Sarod, which is regarded as a are looking forward to popularize it like guitar.
