Noted star Maheshbabu bagged the best actor award for his performance as a student-turned-vigilante in Nijjam while Bhoomika Chawla bagged the best actress award for her splendid performance as a scheming boss in Missamma. The jury headed by veteran actor Gummadi announced the list of winners and they adjudged Missamma, Okadu and Amma Nanna O Tamilammayi as the first, second and third best films of the year 2003. MS Raju’s Okadu bagged seven awards including best director (Gunasekar) while Missamma bagged four including best screenplay (Neelakanta). Prakash Raj was adjudged both as the best character artiste (Amma Nanna O Tamilammayi and as the best villain (Gangotri). The award function will be held either in October or November. Other winners are - Best supporting actor: Murali Mohan (Veguchukalu), best supporting actress: Taluri Rameswari (Nijjam), best comedian: MS Narayana (Shivamani), best story: Chandrasekar Yeleti (Aithe), best dialogues: Puri Jaganath (Amma Nanna ...), best cinematographer: Sekar V Joseph (Okadu), best music director: Manisharma (Okadu), best editor: Sikar Prasad (Okadu), best art director: Ashok Kumar (Okadu), best action director: Vijayan (Okadu), best lyricist: CNR (Seethaiyah), best singer: SP Balasubramaniam (Seethaiyah) and best female playback: Sunitha (Athade Oka Sanyam).
In the Children’s film category, Hero was adjudged the best film while Nandini bagged the second best film award. Renowned maker Narsing Rao bagged the best director award for his heart-touching film Harivillu. Master Ram Teja was adjudged the best child artiste while Baby Nandini, the best child actress. The Akkineni Nageswar Rao Best Family Home Viewing award went to Neeku Nenu Naaku Nuvvu while Vasantham, Tiger Harischandraprasad and Satta got the special jury awards.
