Young maker Indrajit Lankesh is carrying on the dual legacy of his father and renowned Kannada journalist late Lankesh by giving a new ‘look’ to their highly circulated weekly Lankesh Patrike and also to make ‘different’ films like his father, who had bagged a National award. “We proved that the Kannada audience are mature enough to accept unique concepts. I arrived with Tuntaata which triggered a trend for campus love stories,” revealed the trailblazer. Unable to suppress the journalist in him, he made a film around ‘investigative journalism’ (hallmark of their revered weekly) but the film also titled Lankesh Patrike failed to impress. “The audience couldn’t digest songs and commercial elements fused with a serious concept,” reasoned the publisher whose weekly has exposed many a politician with its sensational scoops.
However, he bounced back with the smashing hit Monalisa. “It’s a slick teenage romance with loads of fun and music,” revealed the promising lad who intends to catch the attention of Telugu viewers with delightful promos. The dubbed version will hit theatres soon.
“When I saw that the Telugu audience would enjoy good comedy, I shot a separate track,” stated Indrajit who believes that his ‘fresh’ approach and hilarious comedy track will be a safe bet in Telugu. On the publishing side, he wants to keep up with the tough 25-year policy of ignoring corporate advertisements since it could mar their ‘objective view’. Next, he intends to make a bilingual to expand his horizons in Telugu.
