Kongara Jaggayya expired on 5th March 2004 evening at 5 pm due to cardiac arrest at his residence in Chennai.
Kongara Jaggayya was born in Morampudi (near Tenali) on 31st December 1928. He did his schooling in Duggirala and completed his graduation (BA Literature) in 1947 from AC College, Guntur. He is a contemporary student to legend NTR in AC College.
He made his debut in a film titled 'Priyuralu' as hero in the direction of Tripuraneni Gopichand. After that he featured in around 500 films and acted as hero in 165 films. He also produced a film titled 'Padandi Munduku' in 1961, which is based on a patriotic story of pre-independence time. The Government of AP has given a subsidy of Rs. 50,000/- for this film. Incidentally, this film is first film to be granted subsidy by the Government. This film was also screened in Tashkent Film Festival.
Jaggaiah is also known for his husky voice which he dubbed for various even during his busy schedule in his heydays. The last few years of his life was spent in solitarity in Annanagar, Chennai.
