Her real name was Divya. But, when she decided to step into the film industry, she had changed it to Ramya. Why? "I had never quiet liked the name of Divya. Moreover the name wasn't all that lucky to me," she said.

But in the Malayalam cine industry, she had been trying to make her entry under the name of Divya. 

"But, my true love is for the Telugu cine industry. There is no other film industry that brings in the kind of money and fame like Telugu cine industry does," she said. "But, to gain popularity, you need to act in Tamil films. That's the reason why I keep trying to get into Tamil films."
