Producers not fooled by Katrina!

After a spate of reversals in Katrina's choice as the heroine for a film comes another surprise in the removal of the girl in Nagarjuna's 'Mass - Dammunte Kaasko'.

This is the second one for the heroine after the disappointing show in 'Malliswari'. Producers attribute this to the sky high prices that she's been charging, coupled with the lesser number of call sheets she gives for each movie. Of course Katrina has an explanation for this, "When I am being paid 20-30 lakhs for just three days of shooting in the modelling field, It is impractical for me to charge less than 70-80 lakhs for more than 45 days of shooting."

She seems to have a point, but she missed the fact that comparing modelling field and cinema has only led to the downfall of many models aspiring to be an actress, like Suman Ranganath. It was initially a surprise when Suresh of Suresh productions, the master tactician, paid 75 lakhs for her role in 'Malliswari' which didn't do too well compared to the expectations on the movie. But Suresh claimed that he was banking on the surprise element of introducing a new heroine.

Lesser influential producers cannot afford to take that risk as the industry is particularly in bad shape after a series of duds at the box office. What is more notable is the fact that following Katrina's lead other heroines too have hiked their remuneration. Sonali Bendre, for example, is charging 1 crore for a film, due to which she has no offers on hand apart from 'Shankar Dada MBBS'. She says, "If they can pay Katrina 75 lakhs, they can as well pay me 1 crore."

Isn't it better if we revert back to our Telugu girls who are willing to roles for much lesser price. Atleast we could have promoted local talent.
