Chennai, Oct 12 (IANS) Ace Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar is to feature in a documentary that filmmaker Mani Ratnam is making to promote the cause of physically challenged people.

Shooting for the documentary, being made for the NGO Shakthi Foundation, will take place here Wednesday.

The documentary will seek to sensitise people on issues like providing ramps in public places to ensuring a barrier-free environment for physically challenged people, the NGO said.

"Seeing the struggle of a child in a wheelchair left an impact in my mind, which propelled me to want to form a human network strong enough to lobby for ramps," Tendulkar said in a message to the NGO.

Tendulkar, who is nursing a tennis elbow that kept him out of the first cricket Test against Australia - and will also sit out the second Test - is in Chennai with the Indian team for the second match of the four-Test series that begins Thursday.

Sachin and other team members had interacted with physically challenged children from the Shakthi Foundation in August when the team was in Chennai ahead of the Asia Cup tournament in Sri Lanka.

Sachin has appealed to the people to support the foundation in its efforts to help physically challenged children "live a quality life".
