Kamalhasan released a book titled 'The Oxford Companion to Indian Theatres' at a function held in British Council.
The book titled 'The Oxford Companion to Indian Theatres' was released during a function in British Council. The event was conducted jointly by Oxford University Press and British Council, Chennai. Kamal participated in the function and released the first copy of the book. The book traces the 2000 year old history of Indian Theatre.
This is the first book on Indian folk and urban theatre. The book also has information of more than 750 personalities and associations that were responsible for nurturing and preserving the Indian theatre. The book is the work of Anandlal, a professor at Jadavpur University.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamal said, "It is indeed a matter of pride for the 500 year old Oxford Press to publish a book on the 2000 year old history of Indian theatre. I'm proud that the name of my guru, Avvai Shanmugam also appears in the book. I'm surprised that my name figures in the book too!"
After the book launch, there were special performances by 'Madras Players', 'Kattaikoothu Sangam', 'MTC Productions' and 'Koothupattarai'.
