For the first time, college students have launched their own awards. Until now only government and corporate houses were doing this.

The award is named after Thomas Alva Edison, the man who invented the ‘dream factory’ called cinema. The award, New India Edison Awards, is going to be given on the 14th of November at Coimbatore’s Hindustan Garden grounds.

The award winners are going to be chosen from films that were released between May 1 2003 and April 30, 2004. The grand ceremony is going to be accompanied by dance programs featuring film stars and light music programs with playback singers and Karunaas’ Maestro Light music troupe. Film celebrities are going to give away the prizes.

The award committee is headed by MR Bharanitharan, who had traveled all over India on a motorbike for peace and harmony in the nation. He had ended this journey by meeting with President APJ Abdul Kalam. The committee and conducted surveys among students of Coimbatore to select the winners.
