'Amma Appa Chellam' - not only the name of the film, but even the names of the hero and heroine of the film are unusual. The hero Bala's name in the film is Chellam and the heroine Chaaya Singh's name is Kuttimma. 

Both are good friends but suddenly the chemistry takes a turn and both end up falling in love with each other. But the hero is hesitant to say it to her. He is afraid that she might break up with him if she sees his family's condition. So, he takes her to his home in the village. 

Tamil film heroines are notorious for their traditional values onscreen. So, the heroine immediately starts liking the hero's family.

A set of the house was constructed for Rs 13 Lakhs! Periyardasan plays Chellam's father and Sabita Anand plays his mother.

Suryan is directing the film and Vijay Subbaiah, M Saravanan and M Gugan are producing it.
