"Vasoolraja M.B.B.S.", the Tamil remake of the enormously successful Sanjay Dutt starrer "Munnabhai M.B.B.S.", continues to tickle the funny bone of audiences who are queuing up to see Kamal Haasan in the title role.
The top five Tamil films are:
1. "Vasoolraja M.B.B.S." directed by Saran: It seems the remake of the popular and national award-winning "Munnabhai M.B.B.S." is gaining greater acceptance with each passing day. Those who have seen the original are not satisfied with the Tamil remake, but then it is not made for the minuscule population that has seen the original. It is for the Tamil audiences who like to be entertained. They seem to like the funny dialogues penned by Crazy Mohan and the comedy by Kamal Haasan. It is true that Kamal has done similar comedies before but when a film entertains, who will complain?
2. "New" directed by S.J. Suryah: There is no stopping this film, dubbed as a film that cannot be viewed with your family. But the film entertains the young (and the not so young) crowd and those who enjoy dialogues laced with double entendres.
3. "Gilli" directed by Dharani: "Gilli" is undoubtedly the most successful movie of the year. This has reinforced Vijay's position as the Ilaya Dalapathi. Though Vijay has not attained the mega-star status Vikram attained after 10 years of struggle, he has moved far, far ahead of the other heroes of his generation like Ajit and Prasanth.
4. "Azhagiya Theeye" directed by Radhamohan: This is Radhamohan's debut film. All the artistes, including Prasanna of "Five Star" fame and Navya Nair from Kerala, have performed well. More than that, this is a film without sex and violence. No wonder, this low-budget, realistic film, produced by Prakash Raj, is drawing people who love good cinema.
5. "Azhagesan" directed by Aarthi Kumar: This is a remake of a successful Malayalam film, "Karumadikkutan", starring Kalabhavan Mani in the lead. With a storyline as old as 40 years, it is a wonder how it was a success in Malayalam. In Tamil, it is a film Sathyaraj should have acted in at least 20 years ago. It is a pathetic attempt by Sathyaraj to act as a village bumpkin, that too a young one in love. It should have suited his son better. This film is in the top five only because it is a new release.
