.Vasoolraja MBBS (music: Bharadwaj): The two songs sung by Kamal Haasan, Kalakka povathu yaaro and Alwarpetai aaluda.. have catapulted this otherwise non-descript album of Bharadwaj to the top slot. Kamal's voice, reminiscent of Ilayaraja of the 80s, has a vintage, folk quality in it and that has helped both the songs immensely. Perhaps, if somebody else had sung the songs, the album would not have become this popular. Of course, the title track Sakalaka Doctor sung by Bharadwaj, Arjun and Donan is ok, too.

.4 friends (music. Jassie Gift): Though not as big a hit as it was in Kerala, the music of 4 Friends is definitely a huge success in Tamil too. Lajjavathiye seemed to be the most popular song, followed by Ballae Ballae, as these two are the most heard on the Tamil FM channels these days.

.7-G Rainbow Colony (music: Yuvan Shankar Raja): This is one of the classiest albums that have come out in Tamil in recent times. It is foolish of the filmmakers to release the album much earlier than the film. However good the album is, it is difficult to maintain the steam till the release of the film.

.Gilli (music: Vidyasagar): This is the most successful album release yet in 2004. Like the Oh Podu song of Gemini, it is that one song, Appadi Podu, that has resulted in the unprecedented success of the album. The credit for the success of the song should go not only to Vidyasagar for his music but to Anuradha Sriram also for the unusual rendering of the song. The way she changed her voice and modulated it has made Appadi Podu a truly sexy, fast number.

.New (Music: A. R.Rahman): The astounding success of the film New at the box office has given a fresh lease of life to the A. R. Rahman album. New seems to be a more successful album of Rahman than Aayutha Ezhuthu.
