“Don’t look at me a just an actress. I have greater things to do beyond acting,” Laya of ‘Gajendra’ said.
Laya is from Vijayawada. “My aim is to become like Savithri when it comes to acting.” Within four years, she had done 31 films in Telugu and had won 4 state awards. She enters Tamil cinema as Vijayakanth’s heroine in ‘Gajendra’.
“I don’t believe in the number game. I don’t like to sign up 10 films and run from one set to another. Do two films at a time and do them properly. This is the best way to get a good name with the audience. This is my policy.”
She believes that glamour doesn’t suit her well. She had to lose opportunities to act with some big heroes due to this. “I haven’t lost my market yet. I still get good roles. 10 years later if I watch these films with my family on TV, I need to be proud of the kind of films that I had done. They wont make my family members flinch. My role in the film ‘Missiamma’ was much talked about. People look at me differently these days. There is more to me than just an actress. There are lots of things that I want to do beyond acting. That’s why I don’t want to get into glamour,” she said.
