After winning plenty of National Awards, director Janaki Vishwanathan of ‘Kutti’ fame is all set to release her next film, ‘Kanavu Meipada Vendum’. The film is going to be released on Tamil New Year day. Shruthika Foundation is producing the film.
Ramya Krishnan plays a dancer with a difference. She plays the role of Varalakshmi, whose life is depicted in the film. She ages from 25 to 65 in the film. She resembles the Carnatic singer MS Subulakshmi when she was dressed up like a 65-year-old woman. Ramya claims that of all the film, this was the one that had brought her beauty out. For the first time, she adh sung a melodious song in the film, ‘Thaazampoovae vaada’, to the musical score of Mahesh. The lyrics were by Arivumathi.
The film’s theme is –a man shouldn’t be deprived of what is rightfully his just due to his caste, religion or socio-economic standards. Three women affect a man’s life the most- his mother, his wife and his daughter. The struggle between them is depicted with a very interesting screenplay and popular mode. She has portrayed motherly love very innovatively. The film also speaks about the sacrifices one makes in personal life when one becomes very well known. Mahesh, who had composed music for films like ‘Nammavar’ and ‘Kurudhiunal’ has composed songs based on folk, western, carnatic music and other styles of music. For the first time, the Jive style of dancing has been used for the song ‘Kaadhal vaazga’. Tamil folk dances like ‘Oyilattam’ and ‘Mayilattam’ and folk games like Kabbadi have been very beautifully used for the ‘Adi adi parai adi’ song.
The hero of the film, Sharma, has his origins in theatres. He resembles Vikram. The heroine, Dhanu Vidhyarthi is a Mumbai-based model. Lakshmi Gopalaswamy is another heroine. She is from the Malayalam cine industry.
