"Please don't label me as a sexy actress. I'm glamorous heroine. Not sexy," Reema Sen, the new sensation of Tamil films began. Though her first film in Tamil, 'Minnalae' did very well, it was her appearance in Vikram's 'Dhool' that made her a star.
In her modeling days, Reema had appeared for commercials of more than 30 multinational companies. It was Telugu director Ravi Theja who had brought her into films. She has no qualms about playing glamorous roles. Her latest film in Tamil is 'Chellamae' with director Gandhi Krishna.
Three years ago, she had made her debut in films and has done about 18 films until now. She keeps shuttling between Mumbai and Chennai and Hyderabad to accommodate her modeling and acting careers.
When we met with her in person, we found it hard to believe that such a simple looking girl is the current dream girl of two film industries- Tamil and Telugu! But fact remains that she is the one who is going to be the No 1 actress in Tamil ever since Simran quit the industry.
In her latest film, she stars with a first-time actor, Vishal. '4 The People' Bharat plays the villain in the film.
What is you role in the film? Why did you like it?
When the director told me the story, I immediately liked it. It was the role of a young woman who loves and gets married to a man and then has to protect him from a demented boy who has a crush on her. That role was very attractive!
Do you want to be a glamorous star?
I'm not interested. But, I don't want to degrade myself to become a sex actress. Glamour is not a big issue for actresses like me who had come to film from modeling. But, there is only a thin line that separate glamour from vulgarity.
You didn't mind acting with a newcomer in the film!
I didn't. Vishal, a newcomer, is my hero in the film. As far as I'm concerned, it is just a role. I don't care who plays it. I'm concerned only about my role. As a newcomer myself, I don't have any preference as to whom I act with.
Do you watch old south Indian films?
I don't. Never had the opportunity to. Heroines and their roles change according to time. In the olden days, heroines had nothing much to do except cry and cling to their men. But, things are definitely changing now. In those days, heroines covered themselves fully with saris. Even girls themselves wouldn't like it if heroines did that now. I want roles that give priority to acting. If the role has some glamour in it, I don't mind.
Any plans to come to Malayalam?
If someone calls me with a good role I don't mind acting. Yu say that there is n glamour in Malayalam films, so I can close my eyes and sign up films. I still have my modeling career. But I want to be known as an actress who could adapt herself to any language.
Her family consists of a businessman father, a mother who is a homemaker and a 14 year old sister.
