The prolific actress Meera Jasmin who bagged the best actress award at the national level for her sterling performance in Malayalam film ‘Padam Onnu Oru Vilapam’ beating the nearest rival Aishwarya Rai is now appearing in her first Kannada film ‘Mourya’ opposite power star Puneeth Rajkumar. ‘Mourya’ is a remake of Telugu film ‘Amma Naani O Tamil Ammayi’ that is ‘M Kumaran son of Mahalaxmi’ in Tamil. Rockline Venkatesh is the producer of this film and S.Narayan is the director of Kannada version.

Speaking to media persons on the sets of ‘Mourya’ Meera Jasmin disclosed that any role she wants to play should demand her presence in it. I am not for pin up roles or usual running around trees heroine kind of films. With seven Malayalam films and seven Tamil films for Meera Jasmin ‘Kasturiman of Lohit Das has given good popularity. She has five Malayalam films on hand and strictly says no to glamour roles. I am satisfied if I do two films a year. I do not differentiate between art and commercial films. For me film is important. After it is made whether it is good film or bad it is for the audience to judge.

Born in Thurivalla district Yelandur village Meera Jasmin hails from an orthodox Christian family. When she got an offer to do a film she had applied for medical seat. Her father Joseph is a contractor and mother Aleyamma is a housewife. Her real name is Jasmin Meri Joseph.
