If the hudugis couldn’t stop gushing over his x-pack in the preious Birugaali, his film promises to send the girls reeling. In Chaitanya Karehalli’s forthcoming Suryakanti, Chetan has some of the best looks rted so far. The actor plays an assassin in the film, with the story starting off in the rugged terrain of Uzbekistan; as the kathe progresses, the hero does the rounds of Belgaum and Bangalore. “And a lot of thought has gone into creating his costumes. I brainstormed with designers Chetan RA and Dilip Raj, who conceptualised the look, after I explained the nuances of the assassin’s character to them,” says Chaitanya.
And the team came up with two different looks for Chetan. “In the first half, during which he plays an assassin in Uzbek, we’ve given him at reflect his dark and mysterious traits. So, it’s lots of black, grey and brown. He will be wearing jackets, scarves and blazers during this phase,” explains Chetan RA. In the second half, when the character comes down to India and is on the brink of a transformation, Chetan’s costumes undergo a drastic change as well. “In this part of the film, his outfits will be in sober shades, with a desi element thrown in,” Chetan RA tells us.
The dress code is relaxed in the song sequences: the hero is shown wearing clothes that are slightly over-the-top. “Since they are dream sequences and also portray the hero falling in love, we’ve taken the liberty to show a different side to him,” says Chaitanya. So, the designers experimented with a bunch of looks — metal sequins, metal studded jackets, jute vests in flashy colours.
“The aim was to show the contrast in the hero’s character and the storyline which I think we’ve managed to portray,” is Chaitanya’s parting shot.
