New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS) A delegation of Pakistani lawyers and legal reporters Monday urged the Indian film industry to refrain from making movies that might intensify enmity among the people of the two countries.
"We want Bollywood directors to make films which will help develop friendship among Indians and Pakistanis. We urge them to refrain from making movies which might evoke hatred and hostility between the citizens," said Muhammad Masood Chishti, executive chairman of the Punjab Bar Council, Pakistan.
Chishti is part of the 15-member delegation currently visiting the country at the invitation of the All India Bar Association.
He felt some Hindi movies like "Mission Kashmir" and "Gadar" caused apprehensions among Pakistani youth, who love watching Bollywood films.
"We want Indian producers to help to enhance friendship between the youth in both countries through their films," said Mahmood Zaman, legal correspondent of Dawn.
"Our young boys are really fond of Bollywood movies. So I think films can do a good job to increase people-to-people contacts," Chishti told IANS.
Members of the delegation also wanted the Indian government to ease the visa regime for Pakistani lawyers, as it had done for Pakistani journalists wanting to visit the country.
"We will urge our government to follow the Indian move and ease visa restrictions for Indian journalists," Chishti said.
The delegation, on a four-day visit, will also travel to Amritsar, Chandigarh and Shimla from the Indian capital. The members were excited about the reception they got in different parts of northern India.
A delegation of Indian lawyers, led by Adish C. Aggarwala, chairman of the All India Bar Association, had visited Lahore this year on a goodwill mission.
Aggarwala said the chairman of Pakistan's Senate, Mian Mohammed Soomro, will visit India next year at the invitation of the All India Bar Association.
Relations between India and Pakistan have improved substantially over the year, leading to increased people-to-people contacts and the exchange of delegations representing various sectors.
The South Asian nations have held a series of talks over the past year at different levels under their composite dialogue process.
