New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) National award winning film Shwaas may be India's official entry at the Oscars, but there seem to be very few takers for promoting the Marathi venture abroad.
The film's director, Sandeep Sawant, admits, "Marketing an Indian regional movie is no child's play."
Financial hurdles are the biggest challenge for promoting Shwaas, India's official entry at the Oscars, in foreign shores, says Sawant.
Shwaas is the first Marathi film to win a national award in last five decades.
"We have to market this movie in USA and we may face financial problem. It is a totally new experience for us. We will consult Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowarikar for this," Sawant told PTI from Mumbai.
Screening of a movie in America is a very costly affair, more so if the film falls in the category of regional cinema. There are very few people willing to sponsor it.
Moreover, there is limited viewership and most of them watch it at home, he says.
Two years back, Lagaan was nominated in foreign language section for the Oscar but lost to Argentina's No Man's Land. Aamir and Ashutosh were in the US for two months promoting their film.
