Mumbai, July 21 (IANS) Film actress Rakhee Gulzar was summoned by a metropolitan magistrate here for allegedly refusing to pay a contractor who landscaped her country villa.

Chandulal Patel, proprietor of Rahul Earth Mover Pvt Ltd, lodged a case with the Chembur police station May 8, 1999, accusing Rakhee of "forging a logbook and refusing to pay Rs.200,000" she owed him.

However, Rakhee said she had not received any summons. "I do not know any Chandulal Patel," she said.

Patel alleged the actress approached him in 1997 to cut grass and level the grounds at her Basanti Farm Earthfile Agro Horticulture farmhouse near Panvel. They had entered into a contract to execute the job.

"As per the agreement, Rakhee was supposed to sign a logbook in my presence every day to update work progress," Patel said.

"On the last date of the contract, Rakhee made some changes in the logbook in my absence," he alleged.

According to Patel, when he went to collect the money, she asked him to sign a receipt for Rs.50,000, saying she could not pay the full amount at one time. Rakhee promised to pay the rest later.

"I told her I would sign an acknowledgement only for the entire amount as soon as she was ready with the full payment," Patel said.

A well-known Bollywood actress, Rakhee was earlier married to lyrist Gulzar.
