Raakhi Sawant loves to be called the mirchi girl following her hit song ‘Mohabbat hai mirchi...’. She made a hot pair with Zayed Khan in the chart-bursting number. In fact, if there’s anything at all one remembers about the Zayed-Esha Deol starrer Chura Liya Hai Tumne it’s Zayed crooning ‘Mohabbat hai mirchi...’ to this buxom babe. No wonder she’s been cast with him in his next film Main Hoon Na.
Says Raakhi, “I was auditioned and selected to play this sexy, glamorous London-returned college girl Mini whom everyone wants to woo, including Zayed.” But isn’t Amrita Rao his heroine, we query? “Oh, she plays this tomboy who loves Zayed, a brat who gets into bad company. It is to reform him that Shah Rukh Khan comes back to college,” she says non-chalantly. Apparently, the first thing Shah Rukh does to turn his kid brother into a good boy is get him out of Raakhi’s chungul and pair him up with Amrita.
In Masti too, Raakhi made a transitory transexual appearance. “It’s a superhit film,” she says. Another film in the pipeline is 12’o Clock which is a suspense thriller. That film has her playing a character similar to the one Helen played in Teesri Manzil. The other heroine is Isha Koppikar. Is it a remake of the old musical hit? “Aisa hi kuch samajh lijiye,” she says simply.
Despite her acting forays, Raakhi is known more for her dance numbers or ‘item’ songs. Not that she is averse to the term. “I have made a position in this big industry where competition is cut-throat. I feel proud,” she declares.
Besides films, Raakhi is hot on the music video circuit. Generously endowed, Raakhi spells oomph from the word go. Besides being obviously sexy, she rings in a different kind of earthy appeal which has found many takers in the industry. Immediately after the Mirchi number, she was seen in Preety Bhalla’s music video ‘Sangu naka...’ Though it was a sexy video, it wasn’t a hit, confesses the oomph girl.
Currently, her Spicy Mix music video ‘Pardesiya...’ which is doing the rounds of the music channels, has caught on in a big way. As the secretary who falls for and seduces the boss, Raakhi’s a rage in her minis, revealing shirts, plunging necklines and round spectacles. “T-Series was looking for a girl with western looks and glamour and after seeing me in Chura Liya Hai Tumne they thought I was right,” reveals a beaming Raakhi.
Now that the video’s a hit, sexy Raakhi is looking forward to another music video of Spicy Mix called ‘Bachke zara, mohabbat ki galiyan hai, rehna sambhalke...’ “Purely a dance number it conveys a message, stay away from love,” says Raakhi who claims to have herself stayed away from the emotion.
Very soon, Raakhi is launching her own music video ‘Teekha teekha...’ and is in the process of tying up with a music company to get it released.
First the ‘mirchi...’ song, then the Spicy Mix and now ‘teekha teekha...’ Raakhi seems to be surrounded with it. Is she a spicy girl? “Yes, I am....I love spicy food,” laughs Raakhi.
