Producer-director Subhash Ghai completed a 40-day marathon shooting schedule of his film Kisna in Ranikhet and other Himalayan locations at Uttranchal. The film, a musical, is written by Ghai himself, alongwith Farukh Dhondy, Sachin Bhowmick and Margaret Glover. Being made under the banner of Mukta Arts Ltd. it has a mixed cast from India and the United Kingdom.

Vivek Oberoi plays the title role of Kisna, with two new heroines Isha Sharvani from Kerala, who’s a classical dancer, and Antonia Bernath from London. The supporting cast comprises British actors Michael Maloney, Caroline Lingruisha, veteran actress Polly Adams, Hrishita Bhatt, Amrish Puri, Om Puri, Yash Pal Sharma, Shivaji Satam, Zarina Wahab and Rajat Kapur.

This musical love story, with a backdrop of the 1940s India, has two composers working on it, namely AR Rahman and Ismail Darbar. Lyrics are by Javed Akhtar. According to Ghai the film has music that is expected to surpass the quality of earlier Ghai films. “It’s purely an Indian film with Indian music, Indian values and Indian emotions, with an Indian backdrop for a wider range of audience from masses to classes. This is my effort to reach out to everybody in the cinema hall and provide entertainment with a great story. This is my best script so far in my career,” said Ghai.

Shot in sync sound by Director of Audiography Dilip Subramaniam, Kisna will be released in the international market in a two-hour English version. The Hindi version will be a regular three-hour feature film with songs and dances.

AR Rahman has recorded a special English number for Kisna for the international market.

Being shot in a budget of Rs. 25 crore, Kisna is being photographed by renowned cinematographer Ashok Mehta. Saroj Khan is the director of choreography for this epic love story, which is expected to be released by the end of this year.
