Chembai award for Carnatic vocalist Parassala Ponnammal

Guruvayur (Kerala), Oct 13 (PTI) Eminent Carnatic vocalist Parassala Ponnammal has been selected for this year's Chembai memorial musical award of the Guruvayur Sree Krishna temple. The award carries Rs 50,001, plaque and citation. Ponnammal was chosen for the award for her outstanding contribution to South Indian classical music, temple administration Chairman Thottathil Raveendran announced here today. The award was instituted in memory of music legend the late Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar. Eminent 'Krishnattam' performer K Sukumaran was chosen for the 'Manavedan' puraskaram and 'chutti' (make-up) artist K Chandrasekharan for Vasudeva Nedungadi award, both instituted by the temple.
