Sudha Raghunathan knows exactly what to do at concerts. Good planning and structuring have become part of her concerts besides giving good performance, and this attracts the audience. She lived up to the reputation and enthralled the audience at the Music Academy for the HCL series.

She begun the concert in style by pouring out the richness of the Bhairavi raga Ata tala varnam of Pachimaram Adhiyapayya and the chittaswaras were oozed with the raga's essence. She rendered ''Thulasidala" (Mayamalavagowla-Rupakam-Tyagaraja) and ''Amba nee Erangayenil" (Atana-Papanasam Sivan-Adi) and then switched on to ''Janani Ninnuvina" (Ritigowlai-Misram-Syama Sastri). Her rendition of the chittaswaram was breathtaking. She took up ''Bhavayami Raghuramam" (Ragamalika-Rupakam-Swati Tirunal) before getting into the main item of the day, " Kalyani," whose splendor was brought out with incredible interpretations.

Very much like her Guru MLV, she explored the vakra prayogams cleverly both in the raga and kalpana swara segments. The way she added colors to them by exploring all the possible phrases through variation of its pace is commendable. M.R. Gopinath used his experience and helped in elaborating Kalyani through his skillful display of violin.

Sudha's rendition of ''Unnai Allal" (Adi, Papanasam Sivan) was magnificent and her neraval on the chranam phrase " Neeye Meenakshi Kamakshi, Neelayadakshi" was more a meditative effort. She went on to sentimental ''Chinnanchiru Kiliye" followed by Sai Bhajan "Man Ki Ankhen Kolo", which she used to render in all her concerts. She took up yet another evergreen Ragamalika, Rajaji's " Kurai Ondrum Illai" and stopped the concert. Neyveli Skandasubramaniam, who is known for his accompanying skills for krithis, played mridangam brilliantly and enhanced the concert with arudhis. He along with A. Raman presented wonderful thani.
