‘Kabadi Kabadi’ is a slapstick comedy aimed for people who prefer to laugh with every silly line. The film is on the line of yesteryears 'Makkal Mahatmyam' and there are also many sequences that we have already seen before. Debutante director duo Sudheer Manu however fails to make an impressive start with their first film. But the film might work at the box office as it comes as a respite amidst the tragedies.
Vijayan and Madhavankutty are stepbrothers and this is one of the many reasons why they are at loggerheads. Mampilly Rajashekharan their father was a police officer. Madhavankutty is from his legally married wife, but Vijayan is the illegitimate son still he was given the right to light the funeral pyre during his father's death. But Madhavankutty cannot accept Vijayan as his brother. He makes the best of every opportunity to displease and accuse Vijayan and his mother. They are his worst enemies now.
Both the brothers meet during the Annual Kabadi Championship in memorial of their father. In the game they fight like cat and dog. Vijayan’s aids are Biju and Komalan while Madhavankutty’s friends are Ramesan and Basheer.
Chitrangadan and his wife Sarala adds oil to the fire making the brothers fight against each other. Comes Pooja and Sneha, twin daughters of Judge Viswanathan. Madhavankutty and Vijayan fall for each of them. But they cannot make them out as twins. They assume the in love also. The film proceeds with chaos and forced humor.
Has adequate action, humor, songs, romance and sentiments would have been dealt in a better manner, the film would have made a fun filled comedy flick. But the plot has not been used sensibly. Suraj Venjaaramoodu, Jaffer Idukky, Harishree Ashokan and Indrans shoulder the comedy track in the film. Also there are many loose ends in the script and Shani Khader has written many unconvincing twist for forced comedy. The chase and fights in the end have already been witnessed before. Nadirshah’s debut into music direction isn’t much to talk about.
Mukesh and Kalabahavan Mani don’t do anything exceptional. Their expressions are beaten to death. Rambha in a twin avatar is okay. Producer Mani C Kapan plays the Judge convincingly. Bheeman Reghu tried to do something different.
'Kabadi Kabadi' is an old fashioned stuff which doesn’t hold much promise. It is just a comical outing meant for time pass.
