Director B. Unnikrishnan after a good response with his first film 'Smart City' is back with another film this time. His new film is titled 'Maadambi' with script by him. Mohanlal plays the main lead and for the first time Kavya Madhavan is paired with him making it a casting coup of sorts. The strength of the film is its strong but simple story a common man can identify with. For Lal’s fans the punch packed dialogues in the film are something to watch out for.
‘Maadambi' is a story based on the life of Puthen Purakal Gopalakrishna Pillai, a down to earth man in Ilavattam village. Being a moneylender he lends huge amount of money at very low interest-rates without any formal deeds. He has his own tactics to get his money back on time. Gopalakrishan Pillai also runs a 'Vidyapeedom' tuition centre and even takes Malayalam classes occasionally as he loves his mother tongue and to spread the language among all. He is a man of principles and somebody who is always there to fight for the justice of ordinary people around him. However the difference comes in his life when a new generation bank, Grand Bank, opens their branch in the village and avails more monetary facilities and loans at low interest to the villagers. The manager of the bank Jayalakshmi also invites him at the inaugural function with a motive behind. She is a lady who knows most of the villagers and has lots of dark memories attached to the village though no one recognises her.
Pillai upholds that there is no need of a bank in his village when he himself lends money on no strict terms. Here follows a clash of interests between the two leading banking initiatives which forms the crux of the story.
Mohanlal plays Gopalakrishna Pillai and Kavya Madhavan is Jayalakshmi. Mohanlal completed the film in a record 47 days and is excitedly looking forward to the film which has high hopes. He admires the song in the movie 'Amma Mazhakarinu, Kann Niranju, Aa Kanneeril Njaan Nananju…' written by Girish Puthencherry and sung by the legendary singer Yesudas. In the film he also sings in his voice, a poem written by Anul Panachooran. Ajmal Ameer plays his younger brother in the film. K P A C Lalitha is his mother. Innocent, Jagathy Sreekumar, Saikumar, Siddhique, Manian Pillai Raju, Jagadheesh, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kiran Raj, Mallika kapoor, Sreelatha Namboodhiri and Fatima Babu are in the supporting cast. The film is produced by B C Joshy under the banner of Surya Movies.
Venu handles the camera. M Jayachandran has composed three songs in the movie. Joseph Nellickal is the art director and Manoj B S does the editing. The film has been shot at Ottappalam and at Varikkaseey Mana. The film will be released in fifty theatres on the fourth of July.
