No one can beat Raj Malhotra (Shahid Kapur) in college as he is the no.1 in academics, sports, dramatics and what not. He is the new face of the next cover of Time magazine. Raj though is the winner of best-student-of-the-year trophy for consecutive four years from his architectural college and is also a brilliant architect, yet he is waiting for that one opportunity to display case his talent. He is hovered by a negative fate and every time some good seems to be coming it turns bad. His life is doomed and nothing seems to work. His alarm fails to ring, his shower may stop, his car wouldn’t start and many thing alike when he is in a real hurry to go for a meeting. His fate refuses to be his friend every time and Raj begins to get desperate. His luck has been playing mean tricks on him and he has to make it right. For that he meets the right person, quirky predictor, Hasina Bano Jaan (Juhi Chawla) who tells him that his luck will change and everything will start working in his favour only if he can find his lucky charm and never let go of it. She leaves Raj telling only this much leaving him mystified, as he is unable to find out what his charm could be. No sooner he discovers that every thing is getting right in his career and he has managed to impress top builder Sanjeev Gill (Om Puri) and bag a prestigious project. But how did that happen?
Enters Priya (Vidya Balan) who appears from the top a hard nut to crack but is very soft at heart. She is an idealist on her way to make the world a better place to live and doesn’t matter if she has to fight it alone. She believes in action and everything for her appears in blacks and whites. Raj makes her believe that he can save her Community Center from destruction and also opens her eyes towards her philandering fiancé (Amit Verma).
Raj even succeeds in persuading pretty Priya (Vidya Balan) that he's the Messiah who can save her beloved Community Center from destruction?
