Movie Review : Subramaniyapuram

Producer: Sasi Kumar
Director: Sasi Kumar
Cast: Ganja Karuppu, Jay, Swathy, Sasi Kumar
Music: James Vasanthan

Coming from the school of Bala and Ameer, director Sasikumar also proves that he has the mettle with ‘Subramaniapuram’. He has arrived with an entertaining film which surprisingly is very low on star value. The catch line here is the superb story and the twists and turns that comes at the right places. Also Madurai in different attire is presented in a new angle. The film is set in Subramaniapuram, a small town in Madurai on which the director weaves his retro style classic.

Sasikumar’s film is a chronicle on the life of a group of friends. Jai, Kanja Karuppu and Sasikumar are thick friends who spend most of their time together. They are fun loving and carefree guys who also jump at the opportunity when it comes to a brawl in the streets. They also land up in jail due to this but their neighbour Samudhirakani plays the Good Samaritan every time. The neighbour’s elder brother is a former Councilor. Jai falls in love with the Councilor's daughter. A member of an opposite gang plays foul with the Councilor and the trio step bumps off the man. They are remanded for murder. Samudhirakani doesn’t help them this time and they manage to come out themselves. They decide to revenge Samudhirakani and the Councilor. Here follows many twists in the tale.

Amidst the stereotype films one witnesses, this comes as a fresh change. There is fun and suspense to keep you on the edge throughput. Sasikumar and Jai impress with their body language and diction.

Television anchor-turned-music director James livens the film with his musical score. The background score is brilliant too.

Sasikumar proves himself to be a talented director with the film. ‘Subramaniapuram’ is a must-watch.
