Audio Review : Jaani Dushman-Ek Anokhi Kahani - Feeble music for an outdated story

Producer: Rajkumar Kohali
Director: Raj Kumar Kohli
Cast: Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Manisha Koirala, Sonu Nigam, Aftab Shivdasani
Music: Anand Milind
Singers: Alka Yagnik, Prashant, Udit Narayan, Jaspinder Narula, Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Purnima, Sanchaita

More than its story and music this movie may be talked about for its huge star cast. Director Raj Kumar Kohli is hell bent on re-launching his son. So he remakes his old hit ‘Nagin’ with his son Armaan in the lead. As he does not want to take any risk he uses three different music directors and two lyricists for music. But does these many cooks spoil the broth? Let us check out.

The album begins with an original track from the old movie ‘Nagin’. But to make it presentable before the Gen Next music buffs Anand Raj Anand gives it a new touchup. Even then this Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik rendition sounds dull and weary. The singers too sing it in a disinterested manner.

But Jaspinder and Sonu set the party mood going with their bhangra track ‘Chal Kudiye’. This rhythmic track is exuberant with vivacious energy. All credit should go to the singers. They imbibe the bubbling energy of this Punjabi number and come out with a befitting rendition. To keep things short, this track is one of the liveliest songs of this album.

‘Roop Salona Tera Dekh Ke’ keeps up the same peppy mood. Sonu Nigam has full command over this track featuring him and his screen friends. He musically leads a bunch of newcomers through this Dev Kohli verse. Anand Raj Anand is the composer. This song may go high up in the chartbuster list.

If you have loved ‘Kallu Mama’ from ‘Satya’, then this song is for you. ‘Javed Bhai’ comes close to ‘Kallu Mama’ in look and feel. Once again Sonu Nigam lends his voice to this Sandeep Chawta composed tapori track. Tapori number specialist Nitin Raikwar writes the lyrics. It has hit written all over it.

With the arrival of Anand- Milind the mood gets mellower. ‘Zindagi Main Tujhpe’ is a slow moving romantic track. It comes twice in this album as solos. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik lend their voice to this love track. But both these singers sound dull and sleepy. As a result this song generates only yawn.

‘Jaaneman Tu Khub Hai’ just passes muster. Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan come behind the mike for this Anand Raj Anand composition.

This is followed by another average track. ‘Ishq Junu Hai’ just forget this Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and Prashant number. Music is lackluster. So is the lyric. There is nothing more to add.

Taking into account the number of composers and lyricists used by Raj Kumar Kohli, its music fails miserably. Except ‘Roop Salona’ and ‘Javed Bhai’ none of the other tracks have any kind of staying power.  With such an outdated movie theme, the fate of these songs are very feeble.
