Movie Preview : Jodhaa Akbar

Producer: Ashutosh Gowariker, Ronnie Screwvala
Director: Ashutosh Gowariker
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai
Music: A.R. Rahman

‘Jodhaa Akbar’ falls back on the sixteenth century love story that took off from a marriage of agreement between two royal families to the birth of true love between a great Mughal emperor, Akbar, and a Rajput princess, Jodhaa. Little did the two realize that the bond they had entered would eventually lead to create love-history?

Historically, the alliance was done to strengthen the ties between Rajputs and Mughals. Akbar who was known for his secular ways came up with many treatises and polices to foster ties between with the Rajputs for political gain with little inkling that what he was about to do was to revolutionize his life forever. And this is the very aspect Ashutosh Gowariker endeavors to highlight in this film.

The historical characters concerned here are that of Jaluluddin Muhammed Akbar (Hrithik Roshan) and Jodha (Aishwarya Rai). While Akbar spent his life defending territories and expanding his conquests, there posed another challenge for the emperor, and that was to win the queen’s heart. Although, he managed to win her heart, being a king he had to care the concerns of cultures, religions and armies as well as Jodha.

Musical whiz AR Rahman has offered the music for this historical tale of love. With Hrithik Roshan donning Akbar’s character accompanied by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Jodha Bai, this film will make for one extraordinary watch with lavish sets, dazzling costumes and larger than life appeal.

Slated for 15 February release, ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ is seen among one of the potential releases of the year.
