Audio Review : Indian - Lacks appeal and is disappointing

Producer: Sunny Super Sound
Director: N. Maharajan
Cast: Danny Denzongpa, Shilpa Shetty, Om Puri, Sunny Deol,
Music: Anand Raj Anand
Singers: Alka Yagnik, Shaan, Abhijeet, Sadhana Sargam, Udit Narayan, Anand Raaj Anand, Roop Kumar Rathod, Richa Sharma, Sunidhi Chauhan

Dharmendra's ‘Indian’ is an ambitious action flick being made on a lavish scale. He is producing this film with a big budget with state-of-art SFX technology starring glamorous stars like Sunny Deol and Shilpa Shetty. Aishwarya Rai was initially chosen for the film but she walked out and so did filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani after the initial launching fanfare. Now South-based director N Maharajan is directing the film.

The music has been composed by Anand Raaj Anand. However much attention has not been paid to this aspect and the result is that it lacks appeal. The soundtrack consists of six songs.

The album opens with a love track ‘Rab di kasam’. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik begin the proceedings and talks about everlasting love for each other. However the outcome is not that everlasting and the song comes out just average.

Next a rhythmic number ‘Deewane’ takes its turn crooned in fast pace and accompanied with jazzy music by Alka Yagnik and popular singer Shaan. The song is groovy and you find yourself enjoying it.

Another item number from Sunidhi Chauhan comes as ‘Yeh pyaar’. It’s sad to notice that a singer of her caliber is getting stuck singing the same kinds of songs again and again. Richa Sharma ably supports her here and the track appears to be another version of ‘Mehboob mere’ from ‘Fiza’.

***image:2:right*** Much to the need of the hour a patriotic number comes up to justify the theme of the film. ‘Watan waalon’ is infused with all patriotic elements and is sung by Roop Kumar Rathod. However the song fails to belong to the category of the great patriotic numbers of Bollywood.

Another mushy romantic number ‘Jaana maine’ sung by Abhijeet and Sadhna Sargam makes us for a good hearing with very good use of orchestra. This number impresses.

Music director Anand Raaj Anand comes behind the mike along with Alka Yagnik for the last track of the album ‘Thaath nawabi’. An enjoyable number as long as it plays, it doesn’t have the quality to remain etched in our memory for long.

The music doesn’t have the quality to stay back with you. There is little that excites and interests you. Anand Raaj Anand comes as a big letdown.
