‘Khoya Khoya Chand’, touted as Sudhir Mishra’s ode to the Golden era of the Indian Film Industry, prides itself on some magnificent and glimmering classy tracks coming from the stable of Shantanu Moitra. Earlier Shantanu had churned out some unforgettable melodies for Sudhir’s ‘Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi’. With ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’ Shantanu is all set to rekindle the exquisite melodious magic of the past with Swanand Kirkire joining him once again for the lyrics.
The title song ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’ marks the glorious beginning to this musical ride that gets two noted lyricists Swanand Kirkire and Ajay Jhingran to swoon behind the mike. Starting with a jazz tip-off, the song tends to tilt towards qawwali as it magnificently marches towards its end. An exquisite cocktail of melody and rhythm is what best describes this song. This one is sure to get a high on all music connoisseurs!
‘Yeh Nigahein’ truly recreates the aura of that golden era of the fifties with its lilting tunes and dripping lyrics. Crooned out by Sonu Nigam, this one resurrects the memories of Mohd. Rafi’s smooth and supple melodies. Antara Chaudhary, who have been struggling to find her foot in the industry for long, does a commendable job here.
Shreya Ghoshal tunes out in one of her most unusual ways in ‘Chalo Aao Saiyan’, a mujra rendered in a semi-classical fashion. This situational track, although a slow paced one, contributes to revive the classy ambience of the album.
‘Khushboo Sa’ touted as the best piece of all has Hansika Iyer switch into her singing gears for it. Smeared with a haunting appeal, this love ballad done in a true jazz-fashion is high on poignancy and vigor, a quality that seldom blends together. A delectable musical outpour, which will probe the listeners to return back to it over and over again.
‘O Re Paakhi’ once again brings Sonu Nigam to the helm of the musical affairs. A slow paced poignant lyric, this track once again refurbishes the 50s era with all its grandiosity and magnamosity. The track draws attention to the plight of a nomadic soul searching for a stable ground. A touching piece of music for sure!
‘Sakhi Piya’ fashioned after Shantanu Moitra’s trademark style has Shreya croon out to its lyrics with a pristine freshness and flavor. Ornated heavily with classical tunes, Pranab Biswas who joins Shreya in the track, ensures that the feel is fully conveyed sans any diversion.
The concluding track ‘Thirak Thirak’ gets Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal to do the talking. Opening with a loud and lavish orchestra, this feisty track celebrates life without compromising with melody. Although bearing a close resemblance with the title track, this high-spirited number calls for a grand close to this extravagant album.
Shantanu Moitra and Swanand Kirkire yet again scores with the classic appeal of ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’. A true collection in the records of great music!
