Movie Review : Azhagiya Tamil Magan

Producer: Swagachitra Appachan
Director: Bharathan
Cast:  Vijay, Shreya, Namitha, Santhanam, Sayaji Shinde, Ashish Vidyarthi
Music: A R Rahman

A management student blessed with extra-ordinary power to perceive the future goes to a prudent doctor to interpret the significance of his agonizing bliss. What appears intriguing at the start ends up being painfully banal.

As the film rolls forward, a look-alike of Vijay, (played by Vijay) replaces the original character. But nobody seems to raise any hue and cry about this. The only fellow who expresses some doubt is Aashish Vidyarthi. Even the glamorous girl is his life played by Shriya, remains oblivious to this sudden swap.

The film which dawdles on two controversial scientific themes, first the truth behind extra sensory perception and secondly how can a person look exactly identical without being linked by birth leaves the audience bemused. Director Bharhathan not only fails to justify the story but also fumbles with the technicalities here that sails the film to its sore fate.

Shriya is plain bad all throughout. The only comfort is Shriya’s bedazzled act where she never comes across to picking up her true love and ends up getting back into the arms of the wrong one time and again. Another pitfall in the film is Shriya’s tacky lecture on chastity while looking exactly the opposite.

Vijay, who struggled his way to reach where he is today, simply fails with this so-called sci-fi flick. After treading miles to attain success, Vijay should be careful not to fiddle with such experimentative flicks that might cost him his stardom some day.

AR Rahman tries to put up a good show with his musical galore. However, poorly choreographed songs make all his efforts run in vain and the film just sums up looking pedestrian.

The film also loses badly on the technical aspects. The special effects of the film is too plastic and thus hardly convinces.

To sum up, only a die-hard Vijay fanatic can well, tolerate this film. For all others, this film deserves a miss.
