Audio Review : Viyyalavari Kayyalu - Run-of-the-mill music disappoints!

Producer: Lagadapati Sirisha Sridhar
Director: Sattibabu E
Cast: Uday Kiran, Neha Jhulka, Srihari
Music: Ramana Gogula
Singers: Kalpana, Ganga, Patnaik R P,  Vijayalakshmi, Sri Krishna, Sunitha, Chithra K S, Sri Krishna, Naveen Ramana Gogula

Musician Ramana Gogula has belted out quite a number of hits during his long career. For the music director for whom music is nothing less than passion, his next big musical enterprise is going to be E Sattibabu directed and Lagadapati Sirisha Sridhar produced ‘Viyyalavari Kayyalu’ featuring Udaykiran and Neha Jhulka in main leads.

The album notches with ‘Telusa Cheli’ a romantic duet crooned out by Naveen and Ganga. This melodious track moves with speed and makes for an interesting hearing.  Naveen and Ganga pour out this track in perfect accord that accentuates its feel. The music is well arranged with classical flavor amply squeezed into the track. The instrumentation is novel that lends some charm to this otherwise routine number.

‘Suryude Sare Annadu’ is the title track of the film poured out in the saccharine sweet voice of Chitra. Sri Krishna too joins her in this piece of melody. Ramana makes interesting use of his musical skills here and even sings out the English bits in the track.

‘Neelaala Nee Kallu’ is a duet whined by Sri Krishna and Sunita. This piece of music is arranged in the western way and is very delightful to hear. Sunita renders in a raspy voice while Srikrishna sings in perfect scale and tempo. A must listen song that reminds one of Ramana’s previous tunes.

‘Manmatha’ is out and out a saucy item number doled out by Kalpana and Vijayalakshmi. This foot-tapping track has speedy thumps and Ramana’s interesting use of keyboard imparts some novelty. A good dance number to tune into.

‘Hey Handsome Jara Dekhona’ has a juvenile appeal with English, Hindi and Telugu lyrics liberally thrown in. This is a situational number that gets Ramana Gogula and Kalpana behind the mike to dole out in a peppy manner. Though it cannot be counted amongst Gogula’s best, nevertheless it makes for a good listening if heard only a couple of times.

‘Malle Chenda’ is a massy song that has another great musician RP Patnaik going behind the mike to croon together with Ganga. It is fashioned after the folk tunes and thus will be easily appealing to the masses. This foot-tapping number has some inspiring lyrics from Veturi Sundararamurthy.

Last to follow is ‘Neelaala Nee Kallu’ (English remix) rendered this time by music director himself together with Sunitha. This remix track is better than the original one crooned out again by Sunitha with Srikrishna. This is far zanier and groovier and is aptly suited to the background score.

Ramana Gogula comes up with a nice collection of melodies, but nevertheless they appear routinely done. A good attempt by the musician.
