Movie Review : Marudhamalai

Producer: V Ravichandran
Director: Suraj
Cast: Arjun,Nila
Music: D Imman

All action flick lovers now have a reason to rejoice as Ravichandran’s next release ‘Marudhamalai’ is an outright action packed film adorned with comic crest. This potboiler directed by Suraj, is a complete entertainment crammed flick that will appease the audiences to the fullest. This film starring Arjun in the lead has Nila and Charanpreethi playing his heroines. Al Ameen directs the stunts for the film that has Arjun performing some hazardous stunt actions.

The narrative is about an upright young police constable who takes on all rowdies and goons, single handedly. Arjun is a police constable who works under Vadivelu his superior. Arjun laughs at the fact that after slipping in the roles of superior police officers in his previous flicks, his new film casts him in the role of a mere constable. Vadivelu’s presence ensures some light moments in the otherwise action jammed flick.

The story is mainly woven around Marudhamalai (Arjun) who comes from a simple background and aspires to become a cop. He steers clear of all the needful formalities and tests and is posted as a constable in Nachiyarpuram under the dark shadows of the ruffian, Maasilamani, a.k.a. Maasi (Lal). Maasi has taken over the entire place with the help of his hired goons and has also boycotted the local elections since the last sixteen years.

Election Commissioner Suryanarayanan IAS (Raghuvaran) comes enquiring about the election boycott in the town. He meets up Maasi to know more about the matter but meets up with a bitter outcome. Marudhamalai’s father is one of the first voices to raise a protest against the ongoing injustice but Maasi shuns his voice forever that sends Marudhamalai in a furious fit. After that we get an actual taste of fisticuffs and blood boiling anger as Maasi encounters his first opposition in the form of Marudhamalai.

He is now promoted to the post of an inspector taking stern action against all roadside rowdies and even locks up Maasi in jail. Amidst all theses hurly burly, the inspector also takes out some time for romancing his love, Nila.

Music by D Imman is highly unimpressive. But the way Arjun does away with all the hoodlums in an impressive style is worth mentioning. He is actually quite suited to this kind of roles and brings glamour to it by his impeccable style.

Lal is superb in his gray role. Raghuvaran could have contributed much more to the film if his role was a bit more extended. Shanmugarajan is just wasted. The early part of the film arouses mirth and laughter as Arjun joins Vadivelu to tickle out amusement from the audiences. Actress Nila makes a brief stint as Arjun’s sweetheart.

This loud film has some good stunt sequences but is erratic enough to get on the nerves. On the whole, a hot action caper loaded with loud bangs and bumps.
