The plot hovers around Raghavan (Kamal Hassan), a candid police officer whose ladylove Meenakshi (Kamalini) is murdered by some local hoodlums owing to some enmity. Anand Raj (Prakashraj), his senior officer as well as friend helps him to avenge her murder following the official way of encounter.

Afterwards, Raghavan helps Anand Raj in finding out the truth behind his abducted daughter. In course of the investigation, he learns that she has been slayed. Subsequently, Anand Raj and his wife immigrate to New York where they are also exterminated. Raghavan is shattered by this news and immediately leaves for New York to cremate their bodies and also to investigate the matter on behalf of Indian Police. There with the help of another officer, he unearths many more mysteries behind the series of murders. There he also comes across Aradhana (Jyothika), a divorcee and falls in love with her. He also finds out that there are two mugs behind the murder— Aditya and Sankar, who are physicians by profession.

Aditya and Sankar are psyche killers who rape and murder innocent victims. Raghavan manages to get hold of them but they attack him instead in which he gets fatally injured. Believing that he would die, Sankar confesses all their crimes to him. But somehow Raghavan manages to survive. The two murderers fear that Raghavan will soon reach them and hence they flee to India. But Raghavan follows them there and finally gets rid of them.
