Creative genius Krishnavamsi has already proved his credibility as an ace director offering wide assortment of films in past years. Some of his films were well appreciated while others bombed at the box office. After struggling with his past few enterprises, Krishnavamsi is back with a family drama, an area that never fails him. C Kalyan produces ‘Chandamama’, his next offering under the banner of Teja Productions.
This family tale hovers around Ranga Rao (Nagababu) and his brother, who are village landlords. Ranga Rao is a widower and is very fond of his only daughter Mahalakshmi (Kaajal Agarwal). His brother also has a daughter Rani (Sindhu Menon) and a son (Satyem Rajesh). After Mahalakshmi completes her education, her father starts searching for a prospective groom to marry his daughter. They approach Ramalingeswara Rao (Ahuti Prasad), also a landlord, for his son Dorababu (Siva Balaji). Dorababu takes a quick liking for Mahalakshmi no sooner he sees her and the marriage is fixed.
Nevertheless, Mahalakshmi tells Dorababu about her past love and life, Kishore (Navadeep) who cheated on her. She tells him all the truth regarding her life, as she doesn’t want to keep a good man like him in dark. Dorababu learns that Kishore played a prank on her but that he harbors feelings for her. After getting to know the truth, Dorababu brings Kishore and Mahalakshmi together again. Seeing his big heart, Rani falls in love with Dorababu who also starts liking her. However, none of them have the guts to disclose the news of recent developments to their fathers. All of them decide to elope and get married. But Mahalakshmi decides that she cannot cheat on her father and discloses the entire truth to him. Whether the girls get happily married to their chosen partners or are they parted forms the crux of this drama.
Krishnavamsi, for this sentimental drama, manages to churn out the best from his cast. Siva Balaji impresses in his Good Samaritan role. He pulls off the role with great ease and skill. Navadeep maintains his comic timings skillfully. His character smeared with shades of grey nevertheless impresses. Kaajal Agarwal also delivers her role with complete honesty. Sindhu Menon too does a great job. Nagababu is just commendable. In the role of a loving and affectionate father, he is just unbeatable. Ahuti Prasad, Radhakumari and Uttej also pull off their roles with great honesty.
KM Radhakrishnan arranges the soundtrack for this sentimental drama. A host of lyricists like Suddala Ashok Teja, Ananta Sriram, Peddada Murthy, Vanamali, Lakshmi Bhupal and Sai Sriharsha pens down the lyrics. The music is shrewdly handled and even the background score is pleasing and situational. ‘Mukkupai Muddupettu’ is the choicest pick of all tracks.
Cinemaographer Prasad Murella captures the feelings, relations and beautiful landscapes with great dexterity. Editing by Shankar is good but it could definitely be better.
With this film Krishnavamsi once again proves that he is best at handling glycerin drenched family drama. He effectively and aptly draws out the events and emotions. The entire credit should nonetheless go to Krishnavamsi’s flawless screenplay.
Krishnavamsi should be given a huge applause for excelling with this film. Producer Kalyan is all praise for the director. This flick has bagged above average reviews till now. Hopefully the sales will pick up in the weeks to come. On the whole, this film is a complete family entertainer.
