Samir Karnik whose debut directorial venture ‘Kyon Hi Gaya Na’ badly bombed at the box-office, is back with his next silver screen offering ‘Nanhe Jaisalmer’. Set in the arid locales of Rajasthan, this flick is based on hero worship of a little boy and his dream to meet his icon someday. Himesh Reshammiya composes the soundtrack that demands songs that are smeared with hue of the land. Nevertheless, Himesh tries to bring the whiff of the land in his songs but with little effect. Sameer pens down the lyrics for the album.

‘Nanhe Yaar’, the first track in offering is one of the best symphonies of Himesh Reshammiya till date. This song brims with pure, untainted sentiment of amity between the child and his idol beautifully penned down by Sameer. Sonu Nigam hums this melody prone song with absolute feel. With this mellifluous song, Himesh once again convinces us of his fine musical genes. This track is nothing like any of Himesh’s archetypal tracks that we are used to hearing and hence comes up as rather unblemished to the listeners.

With Himesh arranging the tracks, it is rather apparent that he will not seize back the singer in him for long. The next track ‘Ulfat’ clears our qualm as we hear Himesh buzzing out in his usual high pitch note to suit the concert setting. This one is very much unlike the first track with no whiff of melody to be heard anywhere. Although a typical Himesh number, this track lacks verve to spin. Later as expected, Himesh dishes out a remix edition as well.

Himesh’s regulars Vineet and Jayesh Gandhi croon out the next number ‘Kesariya’ that is encumbered with folk feel of the land. Jayesh Gandhi renders the mukhda in authentic folk fashion of the region while Vineet tunes out the antaras in a different style altogether. This track is also fused with melody but the appeal is not very abiding. Himesh also adds a pinch of jazz to this situational number that should emerge in all probability as the background stuff.

Another peppy track to line up is ‘Ranjhana’ whined by Himesh in his electrifying high pitched nasal sound that somewhat gets on your nerves because of its booming bass beats. The instrumentation is poorly handled that makes it a torture to listen.

The remix edition also hardly appeals with its supplementary beats that only add to aggravate sound pollution. A complete turn off.

Himesh continues with his role behind the mike in the next ‘Lamha Lamha’. Sunidhi Chauhan also joins him but overall upshot is too pitiable. Sunidhi’s initiative to experiment with her voice by crooning in a low husky tone backfires badly. And sadly, the result is just unbearable. This love song, inspite of having decent proportions of rhythm, melody and classical feel to it is a big let down. The remix version promises to be a decent affair if presented well.

After giving an earshot to all the tracks, we realize that in this Himesh dominated album, it is Sonu Nigam who emerge out as the real winner with his ‘Nanhe Yaar’. One does not definitely anticipate hearing this kind of tunes from Himesh’s music stable. On the whole, a mediocre musical enterprise.
