Movie Review : Bheema

Producer: A M Rathnam
Director: Linguswamy
Cast: Vikram, Trisha, Prakashraj
Music: Harris Jayaraj

After making the audience wait for long, ‘Bheema’ finally made its entry into the theatres this week. All the miscalculations and prophecies that clamored ‘Bheema’ finally faced thumbs down as the film released with bells and whistles strongly justifying Vikram’s words, “ ‘Bheema ‘is a sure winner irrespective of when it comes. It is worth waiting for such a film.”

Kudos to the team of ‘Bheema’ for coming up with such an impressive show that only seems worth the wait. With Lingusamy, Vikram, Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidyarthi, Raghuvaran, Kanal Kannan, Harris Jayaraj, R.D. Rajasekar, S. Ramakrishnan and last but not the last, Trisha conjuring up a neat performance onscreen, this film makes up as sleek and stylish action fare.

‘Bheema’ is a film caught in an inexhaustible contest between two mafia gangs, hell-bent on outwitting each other. One is Periyavar’s (Raghuvaran) group, a strong gang of famous ruffians while the other is Chinna’s (Prakash Raj) group, struggling to reach the top.

But the power play seems to alter with Shekar (Vikram) entering the frame. A man of great strength and courage, Shekhar gives a new lease of life to Chinna’s troupe making it numero uno in the gangland. With Shekhar conquering new feats for his gang, Chinna compares him with Bheema of Mahabharata who is able to shoulder all responsibilities single-handedly. However, all hell seems to break loose with police commissioner (Ashish Vidyarthi) waging a new war against the terror world.

Linguswamy excels with his script as well as his narration. All credit should be given to the director for churning out such great performances from his team of actors. Also he should be applauded for making the film essentially entertaining sans the support any crude gimmick. And to add to this is his calculated comic dispersion that adds to the lightness of the film.

Also the strong characterization stands out as another match-winner for the film. The bold and courageous Shekar who doesn’t think twice while pouncing on his foes is well etched out and presented with the help of some strong lines penned by Ramakrishnan.

Also the unique climax of the film adds to its advantage. The tiff between the two gangs with a third angle of police intervention is niftily executed and the result is for all to see.

Commenting on the performances, Vikram does it yet again. The actor, who took all pains to fit himself into the skin of his character, commendably pulls off the role with great ease and aplomb. Not only he steals the show with his enigmatic stunt sequences, but also makes all hearts throb in his romantic getaways, which though few but are memorable. Although an out and out action affair, Trisha gets complete scope to please with her flattering looks and impressive lines.

Prakash Raj can almost said to be the second hero of the film. His presence is so towering all throughout that we end up being completely smitten by his raw appeal. Ashish Vidyarthi as the mean cop is impressive while Raghuvaran as the baddie is clearly predictable.

Technically too the film stands out. Kanal Kanan’s impressive stunts leave the audience awe struck while Rajashekhar’s nifty cinematography just transports us into the gang world. And add to this is Harris Jayaraj’s impressive musical upshot that just sums up as icing on the cake.

Linguswamy and his men prove themselves with ‘Bheema’ that makes for a great watch for all action-freaks. On a whole, a great film!
