Bollywood star Nana Patekar plays the title role of a film director in the movie and Arjun and debutant Kajal Agarwal are in important role in the film. Bharathiraja also wants to commence his dream project ‘Kuttra Parambarai’. More on his forthcoming films as he speaks about them. Excerpts from an Interview: Tell us something about ‘Bommallattam’.
The film has a revolutionary and bold theme. It would suit the taste of international audiences. The premise is about the emotional aspects of a film director. All in all it’s an edgy fact-paced thriller that will reflect realities in filmdom. Other than being made in Tamil and Hindi it would also work if it were to be made in English.
What made you opt for Nana Patekar to essay the title role of the film?
He is a very fine actor who knows the nuances of acting. He is also a creative and emotional actor. When I decided to Hindi version he was one actor who immediately came to my minds.
He is a film director in the movie. Did any other character inspire you for the role?
There is no direct inspiration as such. But yes it can be identified with any director because the troubles and problems that a director undergoes have been brought up in the film.
There are reports that you had differences of opinion with Nana Patekar on the sets of Bommallattam. Is it true?
I won’t say that it’s false because we had some exchanges. But it only helped the film and us. That is because they were creative exchanges, which honed our thoughts and shaped up the film well.
What about the actresses in Bommallattam?
The actresses of this film Rukmini and Kajal Agarwal are both new to filmdom. Both of them are talented and even before their debut film has released they’ve started bagging other Tamil and Malayalam film offers.
You are working with music director Himesh Reshmaiyya for the soundtrack of the film. How was the experience working with him?
This is the first time we’re working together and it was a nice experience. He has composed five songs and they have come out well. I appreciate his talent and this gets reflected in the work he does.
Kuttra Parambarai is on hold. When will you begin shooting for that?
The story and screenplay of the film are already complete. I want directors Cheran and Ameer to be a part of the film and have also spoken to them. The film has been put on hold because it needs more time and budget. I hope that I’m able to begin the film by this year-end.
