Sukhwinder Singh, usually admired for his unusual deep voice, takes the seat of a music director in the movie ‘Kaafila’ where we get a qualified taste of his copious  compositions. After his brief musical spell in ‘Chooriyan’, Sukhwinder once again takes up his musical voyage and lives up to it. He is the sole soloist here and is heard almost in all songs. But despite of all his music excellence and humble efforts, the music appears cliché after the style and treatment of the music of the 80’s and 90’s.

Daler Mehndi, the contentious pop idol hits pleasant reprisal in his fashionable way of shrill and ostentatious singing together with Sukhwinder Singh in the joyfully festive song 'Hum Raks'. With the pulsating and inspired thumps, this song is a situational filling for flare festive relish laced with Arabic and Punjabi folk strains. Sukhwinder Singh’s contemporary music sounds striking but leaves an archaic impression behind. 'Hum Raks' also has a remix version where technocratic beat patterns infused with wacky DJ mix. This track is sure to catch up with the pub trend.

Abhijit comes together with Sukhwinder Singh in a situational track 'Jab Tak Hai Saans' fashioned after the martyr or melancholy strains. This track offers a voluptuous mix of highly pitched music with a throb of logic and wholly lucid vocals. The track is thematic but makes a notable musical show that makes a moving account in the film.

‘Kabhi Kabhi Sapne Bhi’ is a sappy song haunted by the feeling of pangs of separation on being away from home. This is a song that boasts of a huddle of singing muses where the unaffected melodies of the 60’s are intertwined with a horde of vocalists. This song is a musical amalgamation of classical and westernized music, which is quite incredible. Abhijit, Gurusewak Mann, Sukhwinder Singh and Mohammad Aziz lend their voices for the song.

‘Sandese Aaya’ is styled after the customary Rajasthani folk note beautifully embedded in Arabic verses, anticipating news of the loved ones. Abhijit joins Sukhwinder in this track to deliver a melodic strain that deserves a huge applaud. Babu Mann’s rational poetic gush captures a nostalgic feel while the other two singers does a commendable job.

‘Lodhi Di Raat’ is the most happening song of the album in archetypal Bally Sagoo mode laced with the silky voice of Dolly Sidhu vocals in soft echoing effects with racy hip-hop inflow by Abei. This one is sure to churn in most accolades for the film.

The title track ‘Kaafila’ is an average number where Sukhwinder Singh employs boliya, jugni and garbha to depict Indian ethnicity. Shahana Pandit’s shrill voice is mediocre in creating pathos while Gurusewak Pandit is hardly perceptible in the track. Above all it’s a cluttered track that fails to create any bold impact.

Overall Sukhwinder Singh music fails to impress. The very vintage feeling of the album’s soundtrack destroys its appeal. Technically this album possesses a great caliber, but fails to catch up with the flowing music trend.
