The most disappointing thing about ‘Rakshakan’ is that it s nothing but a typical Kalabhavan Mani film. After watching this film its just that you wish in heart that Kalabhavan Mani should stop doing such kinds of stereotype roles that is doing no good to his already flagging career.
The story is about Mukundan (Kalabhavan Mani) a man who runs a garage. He has a large family - his mother (KPAC Lalitha), three sisters and a brother-in-law (Venjaramoodu Suraaj) who is a drunkard to look after. And also lot of financial responsibilities. His late father had incurred debts from Panthaykkal Lazar. Mukundan can repay it if his father's partner in business Bhaskaran Nair (Kalasala Babu) gives him Rupees Ten Lakh that was their share of profit from the business. Bhaskaran Nair says that he surely hand over the amount but cheats Mukundan by offering him only Rs. 10,000. Lazar makes them homeless and they find shelter in the garage.
Bhaskaran Nair's daughter Ashwathy (Mannyah) who is a journalist comes to their aid. She is against her father’s unscrupulous ways and offers Mukundan and his family the house that is her share of the family property. Mukundan doesn’t accept the deal. Mukundan's friend Podimon (Harisri Ashokan) creates such a situation that Bhaskaran Nair comes to Mukundan and repays the whole amount in the form of a house. Everything goes fine until one day Mukundan has a clash with Vedimara Zakir (Riyaz Khan), a dreaded criminal whom even the police fear. Newly appointed Circle Inspector Sugathan (Asheesh Vidyarthi) rescues Mukundan from Vedimara Zakir and they both become friends. Mukundan saves Ashwathy from her sly stepmother after her father’s death and they both soon get married. But Mukundan and his family don’t know what’s in store for them and the film moves with unexpected twists and turns.
Kalabhavan Mani looks stale doing the same kind of role all over again. Mannyah doesn’t exude potential either. Riyaz Khan, Harisri Ashokan, Bhaskaran Nair, Jagathy Sreekumar, Suja Karthika u, KPAC Lalitha are just passable. Venjaramoodu Suraaj does good comedy scenes. Asheesh Vidyarthi is wasted playing such an insignificant role. Saikumar as Professor Narendran is impressive. Technical aspects of the film and neither the music calls for special attention.
It’s a waste of film and just avoidable.
