Mostly celebrated for his superb comical offerings, Siva Nageswara Rao has an enviable track record to boast of. Nonetheless, when it comes to tackle factual scripts, this comical genius seems to be in a hitch. His recent release ‘Bhukailas’ that follows the true story of real estate boom that jittered Hyderabad with the declaration of international airport, ring road on the outer edge of the city and many other such concerns, tastes outdated. Nevertheless the plot was inventive, but the director scuffles with the narration. Even the scenes are too stretched out that bores the audience to tears.
This film starring Venumadhav also boasts of seasoned comedians like Brahmanandam and Sunil. However, the director fails to give them their due here. Talents like Brahmanandam have been simply wasted her.
Kailasam (Venumadhav) is a paltry milk vendor. He lives with his family who owns a two-acre territory on the suburbs of Hyderabad. Kailasam is a nice man who is engaged to a village belle Bujji (Suhasini). But he demands Rs 1 lakh as grant from the bride’s family.
With the declaration of ring road around the city, the people of his village become rich. But his parents aren’t ready to sell off their property. Kailasam is offered a tempting proposal of Rs 100 crores by the real estate agents. He tries hard to convince his parents to sell the land and even threatens to commit suicide. After much conjecture, the family finally sells off the land and Kailasm gets enormously rich overnight.
With all the money he and one of his friend Kamesam (Janardhana Maharshi) leaves for the city to begin a new life. He doesn’t take his parents along with him. He even flings off his engagement with Bujji. As he is uneducated, he hires a personal assistant (Devender Danoa) to help him with his work. In the city, he invests on films but sadly the enterprise fails to take off. He is duped by Manikyam (Bharani), and another politician called Gannayya (Jayaprakash Reddy) who rips off his entire money. Even his friend cons him. Kailasam's was continuously warned by his PA about their evil motives but to no avail. After facing betrayal from all, he finally realizes that the love of his loved ones is more precious than all the wealth in the world.
Talking about the feat, Venumadhav is convincing in his role and is particularly good in the dance sequences. Another actor, Sunil too should be lauded for his brilliant act as a cop. Suhasini as the female lead is good. But Mumaith Khan’s role is stretched a bit too far. Writer Janardhana Maharshi in the role of the actor’s friend is impressive.
Although the storyline of the flick is arresting, a scanty, inadequate narration rips it off of all its charm. The director fumbles with his direction mainly after the climax. The slow pace of the film contributes to its distasteful fate. On the whole, a terrible watch.
