On a calm summer day in 1991, the bustling Lokhandwala Complex in Mumbai became a virtual war zone when ACP AA Khan opened fire on five underworld gangsters residing in a building in the area. This daylight encounter lasted six hours and became the inspiration for a film that's simply titled Shootout at Lokhandwala, and donning the role of the ACP Khan is Sanjay Dutt.

Leading the cast of characters is Vivek Oberoi who plays Maya Dolas the gangster who was shot dead in the encounter, Tushar Kapoor who reprises the role of Maya Dolas's right hand Dilip Buwa, Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan and Arbaaz Khan who play cops as part of the team which surrounded the Lokhandwala Building during the encounter. Amitabh Bachchan makes an appearance as a slimy lawyer. Sanjay Dutt will be seen in the role of ACP Khan.
