Audio Review : Raqeeb - A sheer disappointment

Director Raj Kanwar’s name has been associated with love stories and family blockbuster and has delivered hits like ‘Deewana’, ‘Jeet’, ‘Judaai’,‘Andaaz’ and ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye’. He turns a producer changing his domain to make a thriller this time titled ‘Raqeeb’ to be directed by debutant Anurag Singh. Jimmy Sheirgill, Rahul Khanna, Sharman Joshi and Tanushree Dutta are in important roles in the film. Pritam delivers the music and the lyrics are by Sameer. After ‘Metro’ one looks forward to this next deliver from Pritam but sadly it is not at par to his earlier compositions.

K.K sings the romantic track 'Jaane Kaise' and one looks forward to it because the team of K.K and Pritam have worked wonders in the past. Though K.K is his original self, the song doesn’t get a better deal for the average tune. With high expectations riding on Pritam, this does turn disappointing. There is a remix version following as well but even with a new touch of beats and rhythm it fails to grasp any attention.

'Channa Ve Channa' is a mix of tradition of Indian and western music and you can get a glimpse of Raj Kanwar's style and Pritam's arrangement at play. But the track doesn’t do justice to any of the genre and is just a passé. Gayatri Ganjawala renders the song.

Though 'Dushmana' shows some potential at the beginning it soon bites the dust. The song comes in two version rendered by Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan. The lyrics are trademark Sameer and the track can be termed as the title song of the album.  Durable music and Sunidhi's rendition of this fast moving number makes it listenable.

Zubin Garg of ‘Ya Ali’ fame returns back to Pritam’s domain for a duet 'Tum Ho' with Tulsi Kumar. This is one of the best tracks of the album so far and will certainly catch your attention as well for the way it is presented aided with an enjoyable orchestra.

The next track of the album is a situational song 'Qateel'. It is a mediocre number that has Alisha Chinoy rendering it. It is another track that has retro feel in terms of the musical setting.

After going through ‘Raqeeb’, owing to its low composition quality, it surprises us how Pritam could deliver such quality of music when his other arrivals this year like ‘Just Married’, ‘Hat Trick’, ‘Kya Love Story Hai’ and ‘Life In a... Metro’ has offered amazing music. May be with too much work at hand he is unable to deliver the quality that one expects of him. But for ‘Raqeeb’ he proves to be a sheer disappointment.
