It has often been rightly asserted that it is easy to make the audience cry but very hard to make them roll out with laughter. ‘Panga Naa Lo’ is supposedly a comic caper that nevertheless fails in its endeavor.
This is the tale of two bosom friends - Kartar Singh a.k.a. Kakkee (Om Puri) and Karsanbhai Shah a.k.a. Karsan (Satish Shah) who have been residing in nearby houses since ages and are inseparable chums. They usually meet up for drinks and snacks in their regular pub owned by Gonsalves (Viju Khote) who over the years have developed strong bond with them. Together they hang around, sharing and laughing.
Now these two friends have two kids - Vera (Priyanka Yadav) and Bhura (Kunal Roy Kapoor) who have grown up together and share a close bond of friendship like their dads. But with time their friendship starts to bear new colors of love. Both Kakkee and Karsan are in high spirits with this new-fangled progress but their happiness is somewhat dampened when they see that both of them are too shy to make a move.
Understanding their hesitation, their keen fathers come up with a plan to break the ice. They map a string of proceedings to unite the lovers but their plan fail each time owing to their dire fate or Bhura’s reclusive character. Does the fathers succeed in uniting the lovebirds or are caught in the trap of the situation forms the crux of this romantic witty tale.
Some scenes succeed in arousing giggles and chortles while some scenes just fall flat. Besides the topic is very inadequately touched. A few cropped scenes could have made this film a lot more bearable.
‘Panga Naa Lo’ suffers mainly because of its poorly done script. The actors bring out the best in them and the film, but weak story line hinders in achieving the surefire effect.
Rajen Kothari just misses the mark with this film and the entire blame should go to the scantily developed script. Music by Rahul Ranade is equally bad. Camerawork is also somewhat pale.
Acting is sole relief here. Chiseled actors like Satish Kaushik and Om Puri are superb in their roles. Satish Shah’s Gujju accent evokes laughter. Kunal Roy Kapoor just falters while Priyanka Yadav is mediocre. Supriya Pathak Kapur is good as ever while Navni Parihar is just about okay.
This is a passable film that won’t captivate the audience’s minds for long. On the whole, a non-runner!
