Movie Review : Madurai Veeran

Producer: Sayeed A
Director: Vincent Selva RK
Cast: Ramesh, Saloni
Music: Ilayaraja, Srikanth Deva

Remakes are a safe trend in Kollywood that hardly backfires. Following this fashion is Githan Ramesh in his next flick ‘Madurai Veeran’.

For this flick director Vincent Selvah unites with Githan to redo the Telugu smash hit ‘Nuvve Nennu’. ‘Madurai Veeran’ is a mushy tale of romance in the backdrop of college campus and spiced up with action sequences.

Taking help of the plot, the young hero delivers to the best of his abilities. This film also launches a new face in the film domain, that of Saloni in the female lead. Blessed with good looks and astounding acting skills, this new face is sure to create waves in the film world.

The movie is the account of Shiva (Ramesh), son of an affluent entrepreneur in Madurai and Priya (Saloni), the spawn of a rowdy milk supplier Mayandi (Lal). Shiva and Priya study in the same college. Initially Priya exhibit a strong dislike for Shiva but gradually the hatred takes the shape of tender love. But everything is hardly all rosy for this couple who have to face complications from their families. Initially the parents from both sides agree to this match but they come up with the clause that the two cannot meet for a year. In the meantime Shiva’s father forcefully sends him to Mumbai and locks him up there. Meanwhile Priya’s father arranges to get her married to one of his friends. The story then follows how the two combat against all odds to reunite.

The movie makes an interesting love story with lots of actions on the fore.

Jeeva has dubbed for Ramesh’s part. Other star cast includes Kanja Karuppu, Venniradai Murthy, V M C Haneefa and 'Dhool' Sakunthala. Srikanth Deva comes with interesting musical scores. Cinematography by V Jaishankar and stunts by Rocky Rajesh help extend the thrust in the lines.

This is another love story that harps the same old story of poor girl rich guy love tale. Too much of fights and bloodshed is a big turn off for the movie. Overall, a watchable movie.
