‘Sarhad Paar’ starring Sanjay Dutt and Tabu has taken long in the making. The story and the music sounds old fashioned and in one such situation the nil promotion mar the prospects of the film further. But in spite of all the low-key factors it comes as a surprise when the pleasant sound from the soundtrack begins ringing in the ear. Composed by Anand Raaj Anand and lyrics coming from Dev Kohli, there are some nice music in store for you.
When 'Teriyaan Mohabbatan' begins you’re for sometime mistaken that it’s composed by Himesh Reshammiya. This is a sad love song with an orchestra of Indian and Western arrangement, something that Himesh specializes in but here it has been sung by Anand Raaj Anand. It’s a pleasant and enjoyable track the first surprise that comes from the album.
Guest composers Sameer-Kanchan and lyricist Sheershak Anand get together for the next track 'Nit Khair Manga'. It is a Punjabi love song with a simple tune that falls easy on ear. The melody and folk flavor gives the song a retro touch but its appreciable. The track is crooned by Smriti Minocha, a new singer who almost sounds like Shreya Ghoshal.
A peppier track arrives next. 'Ae Zindagi' is an item song rendered by Sunidhi Chauhan with a little chipping by Wadali Brothers. There is another version of the situational track with Wadali Brothers holding the reins of the music there. The rendition is up to mark in both the version of the track. But the song sounds dated with a déjà vu feel.
'Sona Chandi' follows the same route as the former track in the sense that it too gives the notion of oft-repeated music. The music is run of the mill with the lyrics lacking anything novel. The tune is reminiscent to the songs of the 80s and 90s. But still this typical love duet rendered by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik isn’t a bad song either. It’s obvious that ARA has composed the track when such numbers were hits. There is also a repeated version of the track done by the same singers.
'Mere Rabba' is a homecoming song with the woman singing in joy. Rendered by Jaspinder Narula, this fast paced track has North Indian flavor of music. Jaspinder fits herself perfectly in exuding exuberating happiness. Poornima and ARA join her behind the mike.
The last track of the album 'Addha Sach' is a celebration track done by Poornima a popular singer of the 90s. It’s a foot tapping score with 90s feel to it. It’s a melodious number coming out of ARA. The album had all the ingredients to be cherished only if released at the proper time without the delay. Even today the music has not lost its essence and make for decent hearing. For people fond of North Indian music, this album shouldn’t be disappointing!
