Amal Neerad has signed in Alphonse to score for his next movie ‘Big B’. This picture asserts to be different from the rest and we anticipate the same from the soundtrack. Alphonse swerves from his usual trend of techno trance music and shoves his limit to inflate his musical forte with folk, rock, country and jazz.
Jophy Tharakan and Santhosh Varma script the lyrics well. Alphonse was ingenious enough to engage vocalists from both the worlds of expert singers as well as amateur ones to render for the album, which accounts for a very novel experiment.
The soundtrack unwraps with ‘Hip Hop’, a funky number rendered by two upcoming singers Shelton Pinhero and Shirdhin Thomas affixed with a chorus. This groovy track has grunt lyrics that stresses on fanatical style of living and the need for transformation. The mid note bears a close resemblance to the James Bond tune that further zests it up.
‘Muthumazha’ is a romantic melody crooned by Jyotsna and Vineeth Sreenivasan. This track brims with reverberating sounds, beats and catchy notes that enhance it. This one readily sinks into our hearts with its poignant lyrics.
Next to feature is ‘Oh January’ where Sayonara maneuvers her tone to suit the techno folk style. It is speckled with Russian and Persian melodies that make us ecstatic with its stunning sonata. It also emanates a Spanish feel into it with Flamenco thumps and Spanish guitar. Keyboard notes adds to its grandeur. Overall a bootylicious track.
‘Oru Vaakkum’ has Alphonse going behind the mike to deliver together with novice singer Mridula. Electric guitar in concert with live drums and harmonica devise it. It also has a solo edition where Alphonse pours out maximum intensity and his rendition of the high notes is impeccable even though the lyrics gets a bit blurred. On the whole an enticing song.
Following shortly is ‘Vida Parayukayano’ which has Shreya Ghoshal making her debut in Malluwood. Shreya enchants with her rendition where Alphonse’s accurate employment of instruments embossed in lofty lyrics escapes no chance to bowl over the listeners.
The album closes with the title track based on an unsophisticated western tune. This song continues to bask under the feeling of love and yearning. The music is well handled and the fabrication is brilliant.
The soundtrack of ‘Big B’ is impressive with its mish-mash of different styles of song. All the tracks are arguably best. This album certainly deserves a place in your collection. Well-done Alphonse!
